Perhaps the sun summons you to your work day or the moon. Whichever one of these heavenly eyes watches you as you strive to meet your tasks, do you take your moment?

Do you allow some patch of nature to work its regenerative magic upon you before you face the world? The lake you pass on your commute. The patch of flowers in your garden where insects gather, shining like diamonds taken flight. The little cactus on your windowsill changes with the light and shadows from an elegant dancer to a child.

There is magic in these pauses, magic and knowledge. As we experience the beauty of the natural world, it offers us a living, changing canvas to project our imaginations on. Our dreams and cares merge with trickling water or swaying leaves to become clearer yet more fantastic. We can experience William Blake's two-fold vision as we remain aware of our surroundings while enjoying a deep, imaginative experience. The quiet moment in nature gives us access to the part of our psyches that often struggles to be heard in the cut and thrust of our professional lives.

This piece describes my contemplations while passing Camlough Lake on my morning commute. The lake's depths compel the imagination and call forth Manannán mac Lir's mysterious servants. Taking a moment to look and let my imagination run wild can sustain me through a day of unpredictability and challenge. I hope this poem and artwork inspire you to take a moment of quiet adventure in nature. The synaptic nymphs are waiting for you.
